Job summary

Portage Township Schools is seeking a part-time Food Service Assistant for Saylor Elementary in Portage, Indiana. The role runs 7:30am–1:00pm (5.5 hours) during the school year and involves food prep, cash handling, and positive interaction with students and staff.

Responsibilities include kitchen duties, inventory, sanitation, and participation in training. Must obtain a state-approved Food Handler Certification and maintain sanitation credentials.

Qualifications

• Must pass accredited Food Handler's Certification Course.
• Sanitation certification must be maintained.
• FSS policies and Indiana Health Code knowledge recommended.

Responsibilities

• Assists with food prep, production, planning, ordering, inventory and record keeping.
• Collects lunch and ala carte payments using a POS system and generates reports.
• Interacts positively with students, staff and parents.
• Cleans dishes and operates kitchen equipment including dishwasher.
• Maintains sanitation and safety standards at all times.
• Attends training classes and workshops.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Manager.
