Job summary

Red Rabbit in Washington, DC is hiring an in-school Prep Cook/Baker to join a 3-5 person kitchen team that prepares scratch-made meals for hundreds of students daily.

Typical hours are Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM–2:00 PM with weekends/holidays off; you’ll read production sheets, cook and bake to recipes, and ensure DOH standards. ServeSafe certification and ability to lift 50 lbs are required.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of professional culinary experience in a fast-paced setting such as restaurants, high-volume kitchens, or schools/hospitals.
• Demonstrated knowledge of proper food safety and sanitation practices.
• Familiarity with using and maintaining industrial kitchen equipment.
• Basic baking experience in a professional kitchen preferred.
• ServeSafe Certificate required or in training within 90 days.
• Able to read/write English and work well in a team.

Responsibilities

• Prepare ingredients by washing, peeling, chopping, slicing, and dicing according to Red Rabbit recipes and safety guidelines.
• Read production sheets to understand daily food quantities and prioritize tasks with the Head Chef.
• Portion, weigh, cook, cool, and plate foods per recipes and guidelines.
• Pack and distribute meals to students within required timing and portions.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation to exceed Health Department standards.
• Assist with baking tasks and maintain an organized workstation.
