Job summary

Town of Greenwich is seeking a Cook I to prepare and serve meals in a school kitchen under supervision of the K-8 Food Services Manager. Substitutes must have a reliable phone to be available on short notice.

Requirements include a high school diploma with related experience, 2 years in institutional cookery, and CT food-safety certification or course within 6 months. Strong cash handling and supervision duties are part of the role.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school with basic experience or training in institutional cookery, baking, record keeping and cash register operation, plus 2 years of related experience.
  • Must be certified in Food Safety & Sanitation, or pass a Food Safety & Sanitation Course recognized by the State of Connecticut within 6 months of employment.
  • Must be free from communicable diseases.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and cooks a variety of food; supervises food services staff in proper storage, prep, and serving following sanitiary procedures.
  • Operates kitchen equipment and cash registers; trains staff in proper use and safety; responsible for daily sales and cash deposits.
  • Ensures sanitary/health standards for receiving, storage, prep, serving; cleans equipment and work areas.
  • Ensures menus/instructions are understood and followed by staff.
  • Determines amounts and prepares orders; receives and inventories food and supplies.
  • Controls food, labor, and supply costs; maintains records and prepares cash reports.
  • Maintains good working relations with staff, school, and community.
  • May assist in washing dishes and equipment; may attend meetings and assist with catering and billing.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
