Department: Technology / Information Technology Services

Reports To: Manager of Field Services

Classification: Full-Time

Position Overview

The School Field IT Technician serves as the primary hands-on technical support professional across designated school sites. This individual ensures seamless day-to-day operation of site technology, including classroom devices, interactive flat panels, network infrastructure, and district software.

A central responsibility of this role includes Chromebook Fleet Management—overseeing inventory, distribution, user check-out/check-in, basic repair, and support via the Google Admin Console. Additionally, this technician assists with local field maintenance of our HP Aruba network infrastructure, including access points, PoE switches, and wireless client connectivity.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
1. Chromebook & 1:1 Student Device Management
  • Manage end-user device inventory, check-out/check-in procedures, and device tracking using our Asset Management System.
  • Deploy, configure, and maintain student and staff Chromebooks through the Google Admin Console (OU assignment, forced installs, network profiles, and policy enforcement).
  • Perform triage, basic hardware diagnostics, and component replacement (screens, keyboards, batteries) for damaged Chromebooks.
  • Manage warranty repairs, RMA processes, and vendor communications for damaged or defective hardware.
2. Network & HP Aruba Infrastructure Field Support
  • Provide hands‑on field support for site networking hardware, primarily within an HP Aruba environment.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of wired and wireless network connectivity issues (Wi‑Fi dropouts, VLAN assignment checks, cabling verification).
  • Physical installation, mounting, trace testing, and basic configuration of HP Aruba Wireless Access Points (APs) and PoE switches.
  • Assist Network Engineers with patch panel cabling, switch port management, and closet cleanups.
3. On‑Site Tier 1 & 2 Technical Support
  • Resolve daily helpdesk tickets submitted by teachers, administrators, and support staff in a timely, professional manner.
  • Setup, troubleshoot, and maintain classroom technologies, including Interactive Displays, document cameras, desktop computers, and network printers.
  • Assist with user account provisioning, password resets, and multi‑factor authentication setup (Google Workspace, Active Directory, MiniOrange).
  • Support technology setups for school assemblies, board meetings, and specialized testing windows (e.g., state standardized testing).
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree or technical trade certification in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field strongly preferred.
  • Experience: 1–3 years of hands‑on technical support experience (K‑12 educational setting preferred).
  • Technical Certifications (Preferred):
    • Google Certified Educator or Google Admin credentials.
    • CompTIA A+ / Network+.
    • HP Aruba Associate (ACMA/ACSA) certification is a strong plus.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Hardware/OS: Proficiency in Google Chrome OS, Windows 10/11.
  • Google Workspace: Solid working knowledge of the Google Admin Console for device and account management.
  • Networking: Basic understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and wireless standard protocols (Wi‑Fi 6/6E), with specific familiarity with HP Aruba Central being highly desirable.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, patience with non‑technical users, and a strong customer‑service mindset when dealing with students and staff.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (boxes of devices, network equipment), climb ladders to access access points, and stand/walk for extended periods during school deployments.
