Job summary

Qualifications

• Valid New Jersey School Nurse Certificate.
• Demonstrated expertise in school health nursing practice and emergency procedures.
• Knowledge of child growth, development, health issues and wellness education.
• Knowledge of community health resources and ability to communicate with nonschool health professionals and social service agencies.
• Criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident status.

Responsibilities

• Works with the school physician and health professionals to ensure a healthy climate and minimize illness-related absences.
• Conducts health services and screenings as required by law and board policies.
• Maintains up-to-date health records and immunization records, ensuring confidentiality.
• Provides emergency care and administers first-aid according to policy; maintains medical supplies and equipment.
• Administers prescribed medications to students per policy and trains staff for emergency epinephrine administration.
• Collaborates with families and community agencies to address the health needs of students and families.
• Develops and implements the district's health education curriculum and supports health-related instruction.
• Prepares the School Nursing Plan and health budget with administration and physicians.
