Job summary

City Schools of Decatur is seeking a School Health Aide to assist the school nurse in caring for students’ health needs during the 185-day work year. You will help maintain health records, support routines, and serve as a resource for families.

You will perform screenings, administer first aid and medications under supervision, record vital signs, and help ensure a safe, healthy school environment across multiple locations as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; MA or LPN preferred.
• 0-2 years experience with children preferred.
• CPR, First Aid, and Medication certification preferred or within six months.

Responsibilities

• Administer first aid to injured students and provide short-term care.
• Administer and record medications under nurse supervision.
• Take and record vital signs.
• Administer vision screenings and other screenings as directed.
• Maintain immunization and health records for each student.
• Notify staff and parents of health incidents and accidents.
• Direct ill or injured students to home or emergency facilities when needed.
• Support School Health Team with staff learning and health initiatives.
• Promote preventing and controlling illness with families as directed by the Nurse Supervisor.
