Job summary

Hawaiʻi State Department of Education is seeking qualified School Health Assistants I and II to provide essential health services in schools in the Honolulu area. The positions are full-time (6½ hours per day) and operate at SR-09/SR-11 levels with related duties including first aid, health screenings, medication administration under guidelines, and liaison with parents and school staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; ability to read, comprehend and apply written instructions; and a high degree of verbal skill.
• Experience: General Experience 1 year + Specialized Experience 1 year for Health Assistant I; 1 year general + 2 years specialized for Health Assistant II; total experience as shown in the position table.

Responsibilities

• Administers emergency first aid to ill or injured students.
• Take temperatures and monitor students in health room.
• May administer medications per guidelines with approvals.
• Contacts parents/guardians about student illness or injury.
• Performs health-related screening tests and participates in health surveys.
• Maintains health records and coordinates with health staff and school administration.
• Ensures a safe health environment and disseminates wellness information to staff.
