Job summary

The Hawaii State Department of Education is seeking qualified applicants for School Health Assistant I and II. Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read and apply written instructions; good verbal skills.
• Knowledge of basic health practices and ability to follow program guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Administers emergency first aid care to ill or injured students.
• Takes temperatures and monitors students' health.
• May administer medications under strict guidelines (parenteral order, nurse and admin approval).
• Contacts parents about illness or injury to inform of child’s condition.
• Performs health screenings (hearing, vision) and assists with health surveys.
• Maintains health room and organizes supplies and records.
• Liaises with school health nurse and principal to address hazards.
• Provides basic health instruction and supports wellness programs.
