Job summary

Dubuque Community Schools seeks a dedicated Health Assistant to provide routine health care services to students under the supervision of the school nurse. You will work with teachers and staff to support the educational program and respond to health needs throughout the school day.

The role requires CPR/First Aid certification, ability to manage health records, and a compassionate approach to student care. Training and confidentiality are emphasized.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must have First Aid/CPR certification appropriate to age group.
• Must be able to handle emergencies and maintain calm in stressful situations.
• Must identify common health problems and learn health procedures as directed.
• Must have knowledge of health records maintenance and confidentiality.
• Completion of a state-approved medication administration course.
• Must have a valid driver’s license; may transport students if required.

Responsibilities

• Provide first aid and CPR per health office policies and approved courses.
• Administer medications and maintain health records per policy.
• Coordinate with school nurse during illnesses or injuries.
• Cover health office duties in nurse absence; assist with health assessments.
• Communicate with parents/guardians according to policy and arrange transport if needed.
• Maintain health office records and immunization reviews as directed.
• Assist with health screenings and special needs accommodations.
• Support teachers and staff to ensure student well‑being and safety.
