Job summary

St. Bernard’s School, located on the Upper East Side, is seeking a full-time Facilities Maintenance role for a 12-month period.

The position focuses on daily upkeep, preventive maintenance, and custodial duties to ensure a safe, clean environment for students and staff. Under the Director of Facilities, the role includes emergencies, after-hours support, and scheduled inspections, with attention to safety and professionalism.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five years of building maintenance experience, preferably in a school or educational setting.
• Must have FDNY Certificate of Fitness S-95 and F-07, or obtain both certifications within three months of employment.
• Ability to work in varying temperatures and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to ascend/descend ladders, scaffolds, and stairs safely.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily routine and preventative maintenance throughout the school building.
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests and ensure work is completed safely and to a high standard.
• Report unsafe conditions to the Director of Facilities or Building Mechanic.
• Assist the building mechanic with projects as needed.
• Perform snow and ice removal at entrances and walkways to maintain safe access.
