Job summary

St. Bernard’s School, located on the Upper East Side, is seeking a full-time Facilities Maintenance role for a 12-month period.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five years of building maintenance experience, preferably in a school or educational setting.
• Must have FDNY Certificate of Fitness S-95 and F-07, or obtain both certifications within three months of employment.
• Ability to work in varying temperatures and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to ascend/descend ladders, scaffolds, and stairs safely.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily routine and preventative maintenance throughout the school building.
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests and ensure work is completed safely and to a high standard.
• Report unsafe conditions to the Director of Facilities or Building Mechanic.
• Assist the building mechanic with projects as needed.
• Perform snow and ice removal at entrances and walkways to maintain safe access.

Job Overview:

Under the direction of the Director of Facilities, this full-time, 12-month maintenance position is responsible for the daily upkeep and maintenance of building facilities. The role also includes routine cleaning and custodial duties to ensure a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment.

Responsibilities:

• Perform daily routine and preventative maintenance throughout the school building.
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests and ensure work is completed efficiently, safely, and to a high standard of quality.
• Report any unusual, hazardous, or unsafe working conditions to the Director of Facilities or Building Mechanic.
• Assist the building mechanic with projects, as needed.
• Perform snow and ice removal at building entrances and walkways to maintain safe access to the school.
• Provide support during after-hours emergencies and school-wide events as required.
• Conduct scheduled building inspections on days that school is not in session, including weekends and holidays, according to a rotating schedule established by the Director of Facilities.
• Remain available to respond to emergency calls outside of regular working hours when necessary.
• Demonstrate flexibility in supporting operational needs, including assisting with nightly cleaning and custodial responsibilities throughout the school.
• Safely operate hand tools, power equipment, and aerial lifts in accordance with established safety procedures.
• Maintain the highest level of professionalism, integrity, and a positive attitude in all interactions and responsibilities.

Physical Activities/Qualifications:

• Working knowledge of basic building trades, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry, locksmith, and mechanical systems.
• Minimum of five years of building maintenance experience, preferably in a school or educational setting.
• Ability to safely ascend and descend ladders, scaffolds, and stairs.
• Ability to work for extended periods in varying temperature conditions, including both high and low temperatures.
• Ability to work in confined spaces and noisy environments.
• Ability to bend, twist, crawl, or maneuver into various positions to perform job-related tasks.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
• Demonstrated a high level of moral character, professionalism, and integrity.
• Must have FDNY Certificate of Fitness S-95 and F-07, or obtain both certifications within three months of employment.
