Job summary

Springfield School District in Vermont is seeking a Custodian to perform routine housekeeping and maintenance to ensure a safe, clean learning environment. The role includes cleaning floors, windows, bathrooms, and supporting events with setup and teardown.

Responsibilities also cover basic repairs, closing the building, ensuring doors and lights are secure, and assisting with evacuation drills as needed. Ideal candidates have a high school diploma and some cleaning experience.

Qualifications

• Education: High school degree, or equivalent, plus 1 to 2 years of relevant experience preferred.
• Experience: Commercial cleaning experience preferred.
• Language Skills: Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words.
• Mathematical Skills: Good basic mathematical skills including ability to perform operations using units of weight measurement, volume and distance.

Responsibilities

• Clean floors: vacuum, sweep, dust mop, wash, strip, wax, and buff.
• Wash and clean windows, walls, chalkboards, trashcans, water fountains, and sinks.
• Dust furniture, fixtures, and wood work.
• Empty trash receptacles and pick up litter in and around buildings.
• Provide setup and breakdown of furniture in cafeteria, gymnasium, auditorium, or other spaces for events.
