Job summary

Montgomery Public Schools in Alabama is seeking a Maintenance Technician to ensure safe, clean, and efficient facilities for students and staff. The position is non-exempt, salary based on the district 235-day schedule, requiring a valid Alabama driver's license and experience in maintenance or custodial work.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Valid Alabama driver's license.
• CDL certification is preferred.
• Two years of experience in either maintenance or custodial operations.
• Basic skills and safety knowledge in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, painting, locks and doors, landscaping, and other trade skills.
• Must be able to perform light to heavy manual labor, use hand and power tools, operate custodial and cleaning equipment, and lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Regulates heat, ventilation and air conditioning systems to provide temperature appropriate to the season and to insure economical usage of fuel, water and electricity.
• Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
• Establishes priorities on repairs and general building maintenance, both inside and outside the building.
• Examines the school building and grounds on a regular basis for safety, repairs and general maintenance needs.
• Ensure that classrooms and other areas of the facility are clean and painted as needed.
• Maintain school grounds, lawns, and trim trees.
• Assemble various types of furniture and equipment.
• Complete miscellaneous repairs of doors, windows, locks, desks, lockers, etc.
• Communicate effectively with school administrators, district office, and maintenance staff regarding faculty requests, maintenance problems, cleaning progress, and other facility issues.
• Operates within established guidelines for a financial management system that provides a cost-effective program of high integrity.
• Provide effective office organization and paper management techniques to ensure all records and supporting documentation are maintained in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and policies.
