Job summary

Montgomery Public Schools is seeking a dedicated custodian to support daily maintenance of school facilities. The role involves keeping buildings and grounds clean, operating and monitoring HVAC, and ensuring safety procedures are followed.

The custodian will perform routine cleaning, minor repairs, and occasional report writing, under the supervision of the principal and head custodian. This is a 235-day, non-exempt position with regular attendance required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must pass criminal background check (paid by applicant).
• Able to learn new maintenance techniques.
• Able to work effectively with teachers, principals, and patrons.
• Physically capable of performing duties.

Responsibilities

• Keeps building and premises neat and clean, including sidewalks and play areas.
• Regulates HVAC systems to provide appropriate temperatures and conserve energy.
• Inspects doors and panic hardware during occupancy hours.
• Raises and lowers the United States flag as scheduled.
• Cleans classrooms, corridors, and sanitary fixtures daily.
• Cleans windows inside and out as needed.
• Maintains clean floors and dusts surfaces daily.
• Repairs minor building/furniture issues as directed.
• Reports major repairs to head custodian or principal.
• Maintains scheduled servicing of motors and equipment.
