Job summary

Oakland Schools is seeking a Working Leader Custodian for Milford High School to ensure a clean, safe, and secure environment that supports the education program.

The role requires supervising custodial tasks, performing basic maintenance, and coordinating with building staff. Candidates must follow directions, demonstrate reliability, and handle physical duties including lifting and climbing; on-call availability may be required.

Qualifications

• Follow written directions and instructions from building principal or supervisor.
• Plan and organize work independently.
• Identify building maintenance and safety needs.
• Repair plumbing and heating, and operate tools.
• Experience in commercial custodial cleaning.
• Strong written and verbal communication; good organizational and record-keeping.
• Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50–80 lbs and climbing.
• Pass tests: written, hands-on, and mechanical.

Responsibilities

• Improve skills for routine activities and develop new skills.
• Directly responsible to foreman/principal when in session.
• Follow custodial procedures and perform assigned duties.
• Fix minor maintenance problems.
• Care of grounds including mowing, snow/ice removal, flowers.
• Maintain neat uniform and appearance.
• Project a positive image for the district.
• Maintain storage areas for supplies, equipment and tools.
• Maintain building and grounds security.
• Assist principal or foreman as needed.
• Maintain sanitary conditions in facilities.
• Arrange facility use for non-school groups as indicated.
• Cooperate with groups after hours.
• Report problems to foreman or principal.
• Knowledge of mechanical, electrical and heating units operating.
• Familiar with operation of custodial equipment.
• Knowledge of cleaning procedures.
• Maintain playground equipment.
• Willing to work on call for emergencies, overtime, or special needs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
