Job summary

Vallivue Middle School is seeking a Custodian to provide a safe, clean, and comfortable school environment for students and staff. The role includes opening and closing the building, operating HVAC, and performing routine maintenance and cleaning tasks to support a productive learning atmosphere.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, physical stamina for daily cleaning duties, and the ability to work well with students and staff while maintaining confidentiality.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Experience in plant operation and maintenance, cleaning methods, repairs, security, HVAC, carpet care, and handling hazardous materials.
• Familiar with material safety data sheets and asbestos abatement documents.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, bend, lift up to 50 pounds (often up to 90 pounds), and climb ladders.
• Ability to use hands to handle or feel objects and reach overhead to use tools.
• Willingness for general cleaning and minor repairs.
• Self-motivated, able to work under pressure, and collaborate with students and staff.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
• Maintain confidentiality of staff and students.

Responsibilities

• Inspect facilities and ready them for use.
• Open/close building daily and secure doors/windows; ensure lights off when not in use.
• Operate HVAC to maintain comfortable temperatures and energy efficiency.
• Perform general and preventative maintenance and report major issues promptly.
• Move furniture or equipment as needed.
