Job summary

Montgomery-Public-Schools in Montgomery, AL is seeking a dedicated custodian to maintain clean, safe, and welcoming school facilities. The role supports daily operations, including cleaning spaces, disposing of trash, and securing the building at day’s end.

The 222-day term and a 40-hour week are standard; duties span grounds care and general maintenance as directed by the principal. Candidates must meet basic qualifications and be able to work with staff and students in a busy school

Qualifications

Ability to read and interpret safety rules and procedures.
Arithmetic with money, weight, and measurements.
Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization.
Establish and maintain effective relations with students and staff.

Responsibilities

Cleans and preserves designated spaces and equipment in the building.
Comply with local laws for storage of cleaning supplies and disposal of trash.
Help maintain building and grounds security each school day.
Outside entrances and grounds security in the buildings each school day.
Outside entrances should be cleaned before students arrive each day.
Restrooms: sweep and mop floors, clean fixtures and mirrors; replenish supplies.
Empty trash cans and clean water fountains.
Keep floors and rugs in a clean and attractive condition.
Make sure the building is secure in the afternoon.
Other duties as assigned by the principal.
