Job summary

Montgomery Public Schools seeks a dependable custodian to maintain cleanliness, sanitation and safety of the school facilities and grounds. You will perform daily cleaning, restrooms, floors, windows and general maintenance tasks in alignment with district standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Proficient in custodial equipment, yard tools and cleaning chemicals.
• Knowledge of OSHA standards relating to the assignment.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work harmoniously with others and organize/prioritize tasks.
• Ability to perform routine duties guided by standard practice.

Responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize restrooms and dressing rooms daily.
• Clean windows, ledges, furniture and equipment daily.
• Sweep or vacuum and mop hard surfaces in assigned areas.
• Vacuum and spot clean carpeted rooms and hallways daily.
• Empty and clean trash cans daily.
• Assist in maintaining custodial supplies and materials inventory.
• Assist in supervising physical security of the facility as required.
• Provide emergency cleanup for spills and mishaps.
• Inspect lighting fixtures daily; replace bulbs as needed.
• Patrol facility and grounds to pick up litter daily.
• Assist in lifting and moving heavy objects and furniture as required.
• Set up facilities for programs, meetings, etc.
• Comply with regulations relating to the job assignment.
• Assist with grounds maintenance as required.
• Communicate effectively with staff, students, administrators and other contacts.
• Follow attendance, punctuality and dress rules.
• Ensure adherence to safety standards.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
• Model and maintain high ethical standards.
• Demonstrate initiative in assigned responsibilities.
• Maintain expertise in assigned area to fulfill goals and objectives.
• Participate in training programs to increase skill and proficiency.
• Operate riding lawn mower and weed eater.
• Keep supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events.
• Respond to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
• Exhibit interpersonal skills as an effective team member.
• Demonstrate support for the school system and its goals.
• Demonstrate initiative in identifying problems or opportunities for improvement.
• Participate in cross-training activities as required.
• Perform other duties as directed by supervisor.
