Job summary

Fike High in Wilson, NC is seeking a full-time Custodian to maintain classrooms, hallways and grounds under general supervision. The role involves cleaning floors, restrooms, windows, and coordinating with school leadership to ensure a safe, clean environment for students and staff.

Responsibilities include moving furniture, opening/closing buildings, basic maintenance, supply management, and complying with district policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• General knowledge of the standard methods, materials, and equipment employed in janitorial work.
• Some knowledge of cleaning procedures and the use of cleaning materials.
• Ability to follow instructions.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative in completing work assignments.

Responsibilities

• Sweeps sidewalks and walkways outside of buildings; polices grounds, picking up debris; shovels snow and/or applies de-icing compounds to walkways and driveways, as necessary.
• Sweeps, mops, vacuums, strips, waxes and buffs floor surfaces.
• Scrubs and cleans bathrooms, including toilets, mirrors, wash basins, urinals, commodes, slop sinks, etc.
• Fills tissue, towels, soap and other dispensers, disinfects as needed.
• Empties trash receptacles; deposits recyclable material in proper receptacles.
• Dusts furniture, walls, window sills, blinds and other woodwork.
• Cleans windows, walls, woodwork, blinds and light fixtures.
• Cleans drinking fountains.
• Assembles, sets up and moves furniture as required.
• Opens and secures buildings at start and end of workday, respectively; may turn on and off lights at start and end of day, respectively, and adjust heating or air conditioning, as appropriate.
• Cleans and organizes storage rooms.
• Unloads and stores supplies and deliveries.
• Raises and lowers flags at start and end of workday.
• Performs minor maintenance on appliances, as abilities allow.
• Prepares requisition forms to obtain necessary supplies for the workweek.
• Sets traps for rodents and other pests and discards trapped animals appropriately.
• Arranges furniture for meetings or other events as needed.
• Performs all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
