Job summary

Montgomery Public Schools is seeking a custodian to maintain facilities, perform cleaning, and assist in minor repairs. The role supports classroom and office areas, restrooms, and common spaces to ensure a clean and safe learning environment.

The position requires ability to lift and move items, follow health and safety procedures, and work with minimal supervision as needed. Training and supervision may be provided as scheduled.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in custodial work preferred.
• Meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama statutes and State Board of Education regulations.

Responsibilities

• Maintains building security and policing grounds.
• Cleaning, sweeping, dry mopping floors.
• Cleaning and restocking of restrooms and restroom fixtures.
• Cleaning classrooms and offices, vacuuming carpeted areas, dusting furniture and office machines.
• Cleaning of windows and window sills and removal of debris from the building(s).
• Responsible for buffing/burnishing, stripping, and refinishing of hard surface floors.
• Shampooing, spotting, and extracting carpet.
• Light bulb replacement, HVAC filter service, and other project work.
• Performs minor repairs including light fixture/ballast replacement and door lock repairs.
• Provides emergency cleanup for spills.
• Report needs for repairs and maintenance.
• Moves heavy furniture and equipment as needed.
• Maintain/order custodial equipment and supplies; schedule project work.
• Assist in event or program set-ups and support faculty and staff.
• Shift schedules set by the principal; perform other duties as assigned.
