Job summary

East Providence School Department is seeking a Staff Accountant to support the administration's daily finance functions in East Providence, Rhode Island. The role reports to the Director of Finance and participates in journal entries, reconciliations, and grant management to ensure accurate financial reporting.

Ideal candidates will have a bachelor's degree in accounting/finance and 1–3 years of municipal or nonprofit accounting experience, with proficiency in Excel and government accounting

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related business field.
1–3 years’ experience in municipal, nonprofit, or fund accounting.
Experience with RI Uniform Chart of Accounts (UCOA) is preferred.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel) and email; able to work confidentially.

Responsibilities

Prepare and post journal entries for payroll, accruals, receipts, and reconciliations.
Manage student activity funds accounting, reporting, and oversight.
Assist with annual financial audit and provide documentation to auditors.
Assist with budget entry and analyses; reconciliations of general ledger accounts.
Prepare and record bank reconciliations for the school department.
