Job summary

Westtown School seeks an experienced full-time Sous Chef to join our Dining Services Team. The kitchen operates with a fast pace, using whole ingredients and scratch cooking to serve about 1,200 meals daily along with catering and events.

The Sous Chef will oversee daily culinary execution, maintain sanitation standards, document purchasing and inventory, and ensure compliance with policies and regulations. The role requires teamwork, reliability, and a commitment to quality in a school setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in institutional food service management preferred or equivalent experience.
• Two additional years of Sous Chef experience could substitute for the degree.
• Minimum two years of Sous Chef experience in institutional food service or similar setting.
• Strong leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.
• Must hold or pursue Chester County Food Manager Certification; valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Delivers friendly, responsive customer service to the school community.
• Leads daily culinary execution for the Dining Services Program per guidelines.
• Prepares meals efficiently; completes setup and closing duties.
• Maintains clean, organized work area; performs daily/weekly cleaning tasks.
• Adheres to food handling, sanitation, and storage procedures; complies with safety standards.
• Communicates maintenance needs and safety concerns to management.
• Participates in departmental meetings and required training.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
