Job summary

Westtown School seeks an experienced full-time Sous Chef to join our Dining Services Team in West Chester, PA. Our program serves 1,200 meals daily with from-scratch cooking and catering support.

The Sous Chef leads daily culinary execution, documents purchasing and inventory, and ensures compliance with sanitation and safety standards. Typical hours span 11:30 AM–8:00 PM or 6:30 AM–3:00 PM with weekend work.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in institutional food service management (or a closely related field) preferred.
• Two additional years of successful Sous Chef experience could substitute for the degree.
• Minimum of two years of Sous Chef experience in institutional food service or similar setting.
• Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team leader.
• Ability to maintain records and complete reports.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge of quantity food production and serving techniques, food safety/sanitation requirements.
• Must hold or enroll to complete Chester County Food Manager Certification.
• Must have a valid Driver’s License to drive school vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily culinary execution for the Dining Services Program.
• Document purchasing, inventory, food preparation, and equipment use.
• Uphold high standards of food quality, preparation, and presentation.
• Maintain sanitation and kitchen organization.
• Hours: typically 11:30 AM–8:00 PM or 6:30 AM–3:00 PM; weekend work required.
• Collaborate with the student work program.
• Complete setup and closing duties per Kitchen Manager guidelines.
• Communicate maintenance and safety needs promptly.
• Attend departmental meetings and required training.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
