Job summary

Norfolk Public School District in Norfolk, Virginia seeks a Custodian I to perform light to moderate cleaning of classrooms, offices, restrooms, cafeterias and hallways, with duties including moving furniture and trash removal under supervision.

This full-time, non-exempt position involves 7 hours per day, 195 days per year, and requires a high school diploma plus custodial and customer service experience. Starting date is immediate and pay ranges from $15.53 to $21.80 per hour.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year custodial experience preferred.
• 2 years of customer service experience preferred.
• Citizenship, residency or work visa required

Responsibilities

• Sweep and dry mop floors.
• Vacuum carpeting; remove spots and stains.
• Wash windows and walls; dust and polish furniture; scrub and wash kitchen fixtures; clean blinds.
• Dust woodwork, furniture, and other furnishings.
• Clean restrooms; replace toilet paper and soap; wash and polish bathroom fixtures.
• Pick up paper and debris in the building and on the grounds.
• Replace light bulbs as required.
• Clean and mop kitchen area.
• Fold and unfold chairs.
• Move furniture as needed.
• Wash, dry, and fold table clothes and towels.
• Transport, empty and clean large trash containers.
• Maintain equipment and materials used in the work.
• Lock and unlock doors, check security, activate alarm system, lower flags.
• Perform other duties as assigned
