Job summary

Cedar Rapids Community School District seeks a Custodian I at Johnson Elementary School to maintain cleanliness and safety throughout the building. You will perform general cleaning, light maintenance, and yard duties as needed, under the direction of the building engineer.

The role requires physical stamina, ability to lift heavy loads, and basic English reading/comprehension. Salary is $21.58 per hour, with benefits under SEIU Local 199.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of modern cleaning methods and use and care of materials, tools, and equipment.
• Ability to perform minor building and equipment repairs.
• Ability to plan, organize, and carry out work schedules efficiently.
• Must be able to pass the Physical Capacity Profile tests.
• Must have neat appearance and good work habits.

Responsibilities

• Assume responsibility for the building in the absence of the engineer.
• Take down flag and manage school signage.
• General cleaning: sweeping, waste disposal, toilet facilities, dispensers, carpets, blinds.
• Clean light fixtures and replace bulbs.
• Do yard work: mowing, weeding, trimming and clean up.
• Keep walks and entries clear of ice and snow.
• Receive, store, and deliver supplies.
• Move and arrange furniture for school functions.
• Respond to alarm calls.
