Job summary

Craven County Schools OAKS ROAD ACADEMY in New Bern, NC is seeking a Custodian I to perform routine cleaning, maintenance of buildings, and control of HVAC equipment. Reports to the Principal, Assistant Principal, or Custodial Supervisor; terms of employment are 12 months.

Essential duties include floor care, cleaning restrooms, recycling, locking/unlocking doors, and routine upkeep. The position requires physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and operate cleaning machinery.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment.
• Skill in using small cleaning equipment.
• Ability to understand and follow simple oral or written directions.

Responsibilities

• Scrubs, dusts, sweeps, mops, vacuums, waxes and polishes floors in rooms, hallways and closets. Dusts and arranges furniture.
• Washes windows, woodwork, walls and other surfaces. Scrubs and cleans rest room fixtures.
• Replenishes tissue, towels, and soap in rest rooms, kitchens and classroom. Empties wastebaskets and other trash receptacles.
• Locks and unlocks doors.
• Sorts and stores material for recycling program. Reports to supervisor any damages or needed repairs.
• Turns heating and air conditioning equipment on and off.
