Job summary

Onslow County Public Schools in Jacksonville, North Carolina, seeks a Custodian I for the 2026-2027 school year. This 10-month position reports to the Principal and is responsible for cleaning and maintaining school facilities, including operating heating and cooling equipment.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent and basic cleaning experience. The successful candidate will work with other staff to ensure a safe, clean learning environment across campus.

Qualifications

• Experience in custodial or cleaning work preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to follow directions and work cooperatively with staff.

Responsibilities

• Scrubs, dusts, sweeps, mops, vacuums, waxes and polishes floors in rooms, hallways and closets.
• Dusts and arranges furniture.
• Washes windows, woodwork, walls and other surfaces.
• Replenishes tissue, towels, and soap in rest rooms, kitchens and classroom facilities.
• Empties wastebaskets and other trash receptacles.
• Locks and unlocks doors.
• Picks up paper and other trash from school buildings or grounds.
• Turns heating and air conditioning equipment on and off.
• Performs other duties as specified by the Principal or designee.
