Job summary

Craven County Schools is seeking a Custodian I at J.T. BARBER ELEMENTARY in New Bern, NC. The role involves routine cleaning, maintenance of the building, and operating the heating and air conditioning equipment, with supervision from the principal, assistant principal, and custodial supervisor.

The position is 12 months, non-exempt, with a pay grade of 50. Starting date is immediate and benefits depend on district policy.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment.
• Ability to operate small cleaning equipment.
• Ability to understand and follow simple written or oral directions.

Responsibilities

• Scrubs, dusts, sweeps, mops, vacuums, waxes and polishes floors in rooms, hallways and closets.
• Washes windows, woodwork, walls and other surfaces; cleans rest room fixtures.
• Replenishes tissue, towels, and soap in rest rooms/kitchens; empties trash receptacles.
• Locks and unlocks doors.
• Sorts and stores material for recycling; reports damages or needed repairs to supervisor.
• Turns heating and air conditioning equipment on and off.
