Job summary

Proviso Township High Schools District 209 is seeking a full-time Custodian/Maintenance worker to support classrooms, washrooms, hallways, gymnasiums, and offices with daily cleaning, disinfection, and basic repairs in a 260-day school year.

Applicants should have a high school diploma or equivalent, custodial experience preferred, and the ability to perform manual labor. This union position follows the SEIU Local 73, CTW contract, with seasonal duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous custodial or facilities maintenance experience preferred.
• Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and safety procedures.
• Ability to perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks.
• Strong organizational, time management, and attention-to-detail skills.
• Physical ability to lift, bend, and perform manual labor for extended periods.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Dust-mop all classroom floors nightly and disinfect surfaces.
• Empty trash cans daily and replace liners.
• Wash interior glass and fire door glass daily.
• Arrange furniture neatly and disinfect nightly to maintain order and social distancing.
• Remove graffiti from desks, seats and surfaces nightly.
• Wash boards and erasers; prepare rooms for daily use.
• Disinfect toilets, sinks, door handles and all touch areas nightly.
• Stock washrooms with paper products and soap nightly.
• Disinfect high-touch areas in hallways, stairwells, and common areas throughout the day.
• Report major maintenance issues; assist with event setups and snow removal as needed.
• Maintain cleaning equipment and assist with seasonal maintenance tasks.
