Job summary

Runge ISD is seeking a dedicated School Custodian to maintain cleanliness and safety across district facilities. The role supports school operations and the care of district property, ensuring a welcoming learning environment for students and staff.

The position requires physical ability, adherence to safety procedures, and a commitment to reliability and attention to detail. Full-time schedule with possible evening/weekend hours according to district needs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous custodial, janitorial, or facility maintenance experience preferred but not required.
• Ability to read and understand instructions, safety procedures, and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
• Physical ability to perform duties including lifting up to 50 lbs., standing for extended periods, and working in various weather conditions.
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.
• Commitment to supporting a safe and positive learning environment for students.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the cleanliness of classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, cafeterias, gymnasiums, and other assigned areas.
• Perform routine custodial duties, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, trash removal, and disinfecting.
• Assist in the setup and cleanup of classrooms, cafeterias, auditoriums, and athletic facilities for meetings, programs, and special events.
• Ensure restrooms and common areas are properly stocked and sanitized daily.
• Report safety hazards, maintenance needs, and security concerns to supervisors promptly.
• Operate custodial equipment safely and maintain equipment in good working condition.
• Support safe entry, exit, and use of facilities by monitoring assigned areas.
• Assist with minor maintenance tasks and seasonal duties such as lawn care, snow/ice removal, or special projects.
• Comply with all district policies, Texas Education Code regulations, and safety protocols.
