Position Summary
Runge ISD is seeking a dedicated and dependable School Custodian to join our team. The custodian plays a vital role in creating a clean, safe, and welcoming learning environment for students, staff, and community members. This position is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation across district facilities, supporting school operations, and assisting in the care of district property.
Maintain the cleanliness of classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, cafeterias, gymnasiums, and other assigned areas.
Perform routine custodial duties, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, trash removal, and disinfecting.
Assist in the setup and cleanup of classrooms, cafeterias, auditoriums, and athletic facilities for meetings, programs, and special events.
Ensure restrooms and common areas are properly stocked and sanitized daily.
Report safety hazards, maintenance needs, and security concerns to supervisors promptly.
Operate custodial equipment safely and maintain equipment in good working condition.
Support safe entry, exit, and use of facilities by monitoring assigned areas.
Assist with minor maintenance tasks and seasonal duties such as lawn care, snow/ice removal, or special projects.
Comply with all district policies, Texas Education Code regulations, and safety protocols.
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Previous custodial, janitorial, or facility maintenance experience preferred but not required.
Ability to read and understand instructions, safety procedures, and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
Physical ability to perform duties including lifting up to 50 lbs., standing for extended periods, and working in various weather conditions.
Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.
Commitment to supporting a safe and positive learning environment for students.
Full-time schedule with possible evening and weekend hours depending on district needs.
Exposure to cleaning chemicals, indoor/outdoor working conditions, and physical demands requiring bending, lifting, and repetitive motion.
