Job summary

Wayne County Public Schools is seeking a Custodian to perform cleaning and minor maintenance tasks across school facilities. The role includes following district policies, maintaining safe premises, and supporting operations as needed.

The position requires a High School Diploma or GED, physical stamina, and the ability to drive a school bus per state requirements. Starting salary is Grade 55 with a structured employment schedule.

Qualifications

• Minimum High School Diploma or GED.
• Must be able to serve as Bus Driver/Sub Bus Driver and maintain state-certified bus driver certification.

Responsibilities

• Follow all rules and procedures of Wayne County Public Schools and applicable state/federal regulations.
• Scrub, dust, sweep, mop, vacuum, wax and polish floors in classrooms, hallways, and common areas.
• Wash windows, blinds, woodwork, walls and other surfaces.
• Scrub and clean restrooms and replenish tissue, towels, soap, etc.
• Lock/unlock buildings as requested and secure premises at night.
• Move equipment, supplies or furniture as directed and perform minor repairs as needed.
• Report damages or required outside repairs to the supervisor.
• Maintain and replace light bulbs and HVAC filters as needed.
• Keep stairs, walkways, and parking areas free of ice, snow, or hazards.
• Participate in training workshops and apply new skills to daily work.
