Job summary

Upshur County Schools is seeking a Substitute Cook to support daily meal service in the district’s cafeterias. The role requires following approved menus, maintaining food safety standards, and working with the Cafeteria Manager to prepare meals for students and staff.

Ideal candidates hold a high school diploma, can stand for long periods, and perform quantity cooking. Training will be provided, with duties including record-keeping, inventory, and occasional overtime as needed.

Qualifications

• Maintains current County Board of Health Food Service Worker's Permit.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, students, staff and general public.
• Ability to perform work requiring considerable standing.
• Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
• Ability to interface with other departments, school personnel and external contacts.
• Ability to read and comply with labels and safety warnings on cleaning agents and hazardous materials.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and follows weekly menus and food preparation schedules.
• Operates commercial food service equipment.
• Prepares a variety of menu items for daily service.
• Maintains temperature readings and proper food storage.
• Maintains records and inventories as required.
• Trains substitute cooks and assists Cafeteria Manager.
• Ensures a safe and clean kitchen environment.
