Job summary

Upshur County Schools is seeking a Substitute Cook to support daily school meals under the direction of the Director of Wellness and Child Nutrition. The cook will perform cooking and baking duties following nutritionally sound menus, with responsibilities for inventory and record-keeping.

Occasional overtime may be required. Position requires ability to do quantity cooking, operate commercial kitchen equipment, and work with staff and students.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Current County Board of Health Food Service Worker's Permit.
• Ability to stand for long periods and lift moderate weight.
• Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions.
• Effective communication with administrators, students, staff and the public.
• Ability to read and follow written, verbal and diagram instructions.
• Criminal background check as required by WV Code.

Responsibilities

• Review weekly menus and plan food preparation.
• Prepare a variety of menu items for daily service.
• Maintain temperature readings.
• Assemble, measure, and mix ingredients.
• Supervise or assist Cafeteria Manager when needed.
• Maintain records including receipts and inventories.
• Input data into computer when applicable.
• Assist with preparation of meals for students and adults.
• Assist with preparation of special dietary items for identified students.
• Train substitute cooks assigned to the work location.
• Maintain sanitation and safe food handling.
• Cooperate with school programs and external groups for events.
