Job summary

Omaha Public Schools is seeking a Kitchen Assistant at Chandler View Elementary to support meal preparation, service, and sanitation for students and staff. You will work in a friendly cafeteria team, ensuring safe handling and accurate portions while maintaining strong customer service.

Responsibilities include training across kitchen stations, following menus, and collaborating with staff and families from diverse backgrounds. Local travel may be required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Basic arithmetic with money, weight, volume and distance.
• Previous food service experience preferred.
• Knowledge of food safety practices and procedures.
• Strong customer relations and service recovery.
• Excellent attendance and work record.
• Ability to interact with students, staff, and parents from diverse backgrounds.
• Willingness to travel to other schools when requested.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the preparation, service, and storage of food.
• Follow approved cafeteria menu preparation and service protocols within the timeline.
• Train in all stations within the kitchen to cross-cover as needed.
• Promote customer service through appealing food and friendly service.
• Monitor portion control, pricing, and safe storage of supplies and food.
• Complete required reports and work with diverse student populations.
• Serve as a positive role model and maintain HACCP procedures.
