Job summary

Burnside Elementary in Somerset, Kentucky is hiring a full-time Cook to prepare and bake a variety of foods for school meals. Starting immediately, you will handle quantities for large-scale cooking, monitor temperatures and sanitation, and assist with serving and inventory.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED and at least one year of cooking and baking experience in large quantities. A certification training course for beginning school food personnel is also required.

Qualifications

• Education and experience requirements: Any combination equivalent to a high school diploma or GED and one year of cooking and baking experience in large quantities.
• License and other requirements: Must complete training course for certification of beginning school food personnel as prescribed in 702 KAR 6:045.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and bake rolls, biscuits, breads, cakes, cookies and other baked goods; prepare and combine necessary ingredients.
• Prepare and cook meat dishes, vegetables and other main dishes; prepare salads, sandwiches, fruit, soups, sauces and other foods.
• Monitor temperatures and sanitization to ensure safety and quality standards.
• Serve food according to guidelines and replenish serving containers; assist with inventory and money handling.
• Operate kitchen equipment and train staff as needed.
• Record amounts of food sold and monies collected; prepare records of foods cooked and leftovers.
