Job summary

New Bedford Public Schools is seeking an Assistant Cook to prepare and serve nutritious meals for students and staff at the PRAB - Food Service - Central Kitchen in New Bedford, MA. Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Certified Safe Serve or equivalent food safety training preferred.
• Food allergy awareness training or willingness to obtain.
• Choke Safe certification preferred.
• Employment contingent on CORI background check.
• Must comply with state fingerprinting requirements.
• Willingness to learn nutrition, sanitation, and equipment use.
• Ability to operate POS system for meal counting.

Responsibilities

• Cook and serve meals to students and staff efficiently with proper portion controls.
• Prepare meals according to the monthly menu under supervision of Cook/Cafeteria Manager.
• Ensure proper food handling, sanitation, and safe serving temperatures.
• Assist with stocking, deliveries, and end-of-day cleanup and logs.
• Operate kitchen equipment safely (ovens, steamers, kettles, ranges, slicers).
• Maintain temperature logs and other daily food logs as required.

Education
