Job summary

New Bedford Public Schools is seeking a Cafeteria Cook to prepare and serve nutritious meals for students and staff in a school kitchen. You will follow a monthly menu, ensure safe handling and portion control, and maintain hygiene and sanitation standards.

Responsibilities include meal service, basic cashiering, dishwashing, and assisting in daily food operations under the Cafeteria Manager. Requires ability to lift up to 40 lbs and work in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• Current Safe Serve or similar Food Safety certificate preferred, or ability to obtain.
• Current Food Allergy Awareness Certification, or ability to obtain.
• Current Choke Safe Certification preferred.
• Employment based on successful CORI background check.
• Adhere to State Fingerprinting Regulation for school employees.
• Willing to be trained in basic nutrition, sanitation, and equipment use.
• Ability to operate Point of Sale system for accurate meal charges.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, diverse team environment.
• Ability to stand, lift up to 40 lbs, and be on feet most of the day.

Responsibilities

• Cook and serve meals to students and staff with proper portions.
• Follow monthly menu and ensure correct serving temperatures.
• Maintain proper food safety and sanitation in all kitchen areas.
• Assist with dishwashing, cashiering, and general kitchen tasks.
• Assist with receiving, rotating, dating, and storing deliveries.
• Complete daily logs (temperature, cooking, holding, cooling).
• Take on relief duties to cover staff absences as needed.
