Job summary

New Braunfels ISD is seeking a Safety Training & Operations Coordinator (Part-Time) to manage recruitment, training, and evaluation of school bus drivers and to assist the Director in administering NBISD’s safety program, including state reporting and incident review. The role requires a High School Diploma, Texas CDL with endorsements, and specialized safety certifications.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Texas CDL (Class A/B with P&S endorsements) required.
• Texas School Bus Driver Safety Training Certificate required.
• TEEX Training Academy certification within 6 months of employment.
• TASB Vehicle Collision Investigation certification within 1 year of employment.
• Supervisor Training-Drug Detection and Deterrence within 1 year of work.

Responsibilities

• Assist drivers/monitors with student management concerns.
• Access bus video surveillance system for safety and security purposes.
• Participate in the approved State School Bus Driving training course and recommend upgrades.
• Recruit individuals to become School Bus Drivers and train them during orientation.
• Develop, schedule, and perform Driver Field in-service training per NBISD/Texas standards.
• Refresh and broaden driving skills of NBISD drivers.
• Perform Driver Proficiency Evaluations at least once per school year.
• Assist in managing the department's safety program and monthly safety awards.
• Initiate driver retraining per NBISD guidelines.
• Provide safety training to Safety Trainers and Road Trainers; evaluate performance.
• Develop student safety awareness programs with school personnel.
• Document training records per regulations and NBISD policies.
• Schedule site visits and road observations for compliance.
• Investigate safety complaints and take corrective action.
• Attend PD activities to stay current with transportation developments.
• Compile monthly safety and injury/accident reports.
• Notify drivers of expiring documents and ensure renewals.
• Be the first point of contact for public/parent/driver concerns.
• Meet driver qualifications and safety standards for state rules.
• Serve as substitute driver when needed and support bus operations.
• Provide inputs to Emergency Operations and Planning procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
