Job summary

Chesterfield County Public Schools seeks a skilled bus routing specialist to plan school bus routes, assign students to buses, and optimize schedules using both manual methods and the district routing system.

You will analyze capacity, mileage, and safety considerations, adjust routes during the year, and generate monthly reports. Strong data skills and experience with mapping tools are essential.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of transportation planning, scheduling and operations, county geography and office procedures.
• Safe and defensive driving methods and first aid procedures including CPR.
• Knowledge of personnel policies and school bus operation laws and regulations.
• Ability to operate a computer and use word processing, spreadsheet, database, mapping and routing tools.

Responsibilities

• Analyze data on vehicle capacity, timing, road systems, and safety to develop routes and schedules.
• Assist with establishing and monitoring routes, adjust during the school year, test schedules and determine mileage.
• Resolve issues like overcrowding or imbalanced loads to meet bell schedules.
• Collaborate with area staff to assign routes for all students, including special programs and out-of-zone students.
• Review bus stop requests and process approvals or denials accordingly.
• Use routing/mapping software to plan routes, post routes on the website, and maintain route data.
