Job summary

Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools seeks a School Bus Monitor to support students' safe and reliable transportation. You will assist the bus driver, monitor conduct, and help with boarding and alighting to maintain order on routes.

This 10-month, nonexempt position reports to the Director of Transportation and requires a high school diploma or GED. The role emphasizes safety, daily record-keeping, and coordination with school staff to ensure a positive transportation experience for all CHCCS

Qualifications

• Commitment to student safety and ability to follow transportation policies.

Responsibilities

• Assist the bus driver in maintaining good student conduct on the bus.
• Inspect transportation passes to prevent unauthorized travel.
• Assist young or disabled students in getting on and off the bus.
• Ensure students board and exit in an orderly fashion.
• Provide written records of violations of the student code to the Transportation Supervisor.
• Collect and turn over personal items left on the bus to the school secretary.
• Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor.
• Maintain compliance with all school district policies and procedures.

Reports To: Director of Transportation

Salary Grade: 101

Work Location: Lincoln Center

FLSA Status: Nonexempt

Work Schedule: 10 Month

Position Summary:

To assist in providing safe transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the district’s curriculum and extracurricular program

Essential Duties

• Assists the bus driver in maintaining good student conduct on the bus.

• Inspects transportation passes to prevent unauthorized travel.

• Assists young or disabled students in getting on and off the bus.

• Assures that students get on and off the bus in an orderly fashion.

• Provides written records of violations of the student code to the Transportation Supervisor.

• Collects and turns over to the school secretary those personal items left on the bus by students.

• Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor

• Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures

Education/Experience Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED required

• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

Physical Requirements

• Position includes lifting, holding children

• Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards

• Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
