Job summary

Berkeley Township Board of Education District-Wide is seeking a Bus Mechanic to assist in maintenance, inspection, and repair of school buses and district vehicles to keep transportation safe and reliable.

Under the Head Mechanic, you will perform preventive maintenance per NJDOT schedules, service engines and tires, document work orders, and support troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical issues while maintaining a clean, organized shop environment.

Qualifications

• Experience with mechanical tools, safety practices.
• Basic understanding of diesel engines.
• Ability to use diagnostic and repair equipment.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Strong attention to detail and recordkeeping.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Criminal History approval from the state of New Jersey.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of school bus engines, transmissions, brakes, and related mechanical systems.
• Perform preventative maintenance inspections in accordance with NJDOT and district schedules.
• Assist with disassembly and reassembly of engines and major components.
• Inspect, service, and repair tires, including mounting and balancing as needed.
• Perform routine servicing including oil changes, lubrication, and fluid checks.
• Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, and work orders.
• Assist with fueling, lubricating, and maintaining shop equipment and supplies.
• Support troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical issues.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Mechanic.
