Job summary

Pike Road Schools Transportation Department seeks a qualified School Bus Mechanic to maintain and repair buses and other vehicles, ensuring safe transportation for students and staff.

Responsibilities include diagnosing mechanical problems, performing preventive maintenance, maintaining records, and adhering to safety standards. The role requires Alabama DOT physical, CDL, and a commitment to work hours that may include evenings or weekends.

Qualifications

• Completion of a certified auto mechanic apprenticeship or 5 years' experience as auto/truck mechanic.
• Maintain a current DOT physical as required by policy.
• Possess Alabama bus driver certificate and CDL.
• Ability to obtain Alabama School Bus Mechanic certification.
• Must pass suitability criteria under Alabama Child Protection Act.
• Must pass drug tests as required by policy.
• Competent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to operate diagnostic equipment and shop tools.
• Ability to diagnose problems and implement preventive maintenance.
• Physical strength to lift up to 50 pounds; ability to exert up to 75 pounds of force.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors year-round in various conditions.
• Willingness to work after hours, weekends, or holidays when necessary.
• Must maintain punctuality and regular attendance.
• Other qualifications as required by the Board.

Responsibilities

• Accept and complete supervisor's assigned job and supervision.
• Maintain safety standards at all times.
• Diagnose and repair transportation equipment for Pike Road Schools.
• Maintain and manage parts and inventory received.
• Report abuse of vehicles/equipment to Transportation Director.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance and safety inspections on buses.
• Maintain vehicles and equipment in clean, safe condition.
• Develop written maintenance records for all school vehicles.
• Respond to emergencies and call-outs promptly.
• Adhere to Board policies and maintain records accordingly.
