Job summary

Blount County Board of Education in Alabama seeks a dedicated Utility Bus Driver to transport students on assigned routes, maintain safety, and abide by schedules and school policies.

The role requires a valid Alabama CDL with passenger and school bus endorsement, a current DOT physical, a clean driving record, and the ability to manage students and report mechanical issues. 184-day position with daily routes as scheduled by the Supervisor of Transportation.

Qualifications

• Must have valid Alabama bus driver certificate and CDL with passenger and school bus endorsement.
• Must maintain a current DOT physical per BCBOE policy.
• Must have an acceptable motor vehicle record with no DUI convictions.
• Must pass random drug and alcohol screenings or the Alabama School Bus Driver Examination Report every two years.
• Must complete Blount County School Bus Driver Physical Performance Test.

Responsibilities

• Observe traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses in accordance with Federal, State, and local guidelines.
• Maintain and implement established rules and procedures for transportation.
• Transport authorized passengers only, follow the assigned time schedule and route.
• Unload students at authorized stops only.
• Maintain all communication equipment and report discipline problems to supervisors.
• Cooperate with principals, Supervisor of Transportation and parents to resolve discipline problems.
• Conduct bus evacuation drills according to approved procedures.
• Keep bus properly fueled and clean.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections for mechanical defects and items left on the bus.
• Report all accidents, vehicle damage and student injuries to appropriate officials immediately.
