Job summary

Alabama State Department of Education seeks a School Bus Driver to provide safe and efficient transportation for students. You will comply with all traffic laws, perform pre- and post-trip inspections, and maintain daily route reports to ensure timely student arrivals.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or GED, Alabama CDL endorsements, and a valid driver’s license with a clean record, plus the ability to obtain school bus certification and pass background checks.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required or recognized.
• Valid Alabama driver’s license with insurable record.
• CDL with endorsements and school bus driver certification required/obtainable.
• Experience operating school buses preferred.
• Background clearance through FBI and ABI processes.

Responsibilities

• Notify supervisor and payroll when absent and reason.
• Adhere to traffic laws and safety regulations.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and maintain route reports.
• Transport students to and from school as assigned.
• Maintain discipline and safety on the bus.
• Assist with evacuations and safety procedures.
• Report accidents immediately to Transportation Office.
• Maintain and fuel assigned bus and report needed repairs.
• Discipline students and interact with parents and school staff as needed.
• Dress professionally and maintain confidentiality.
