Job summary

Denver Public Schools is seeking a Transportation Driver to safely transport students to and from regularly scheduled routes, ensuring compliance with all laws and DPS policies. Roles include pre-trip inspections, adherence to dispatch orders, and maintaining safety and on-time performance.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, a Colorado driver’s license (21+), insurability, and the ability to work in a diverse environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum High School Diploma/GED.
• A current and valid State of Colorado driver’s license; must be 21+.
• Must meet District insurability requirements for driving a district vehicle; meet CO Dept of Education and FMCSR Part 382 requirements; pass DOT medical.
• Ability to take responsibility for one’s own performance.
• Effective communication skills.
• Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment; collaborate with staff and students.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with Transportation personnel on routes and communicates with parents, community, and passengers.
• Conducts pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections; reports defects and understands basic mechanical functions.
• Adheres to radio dispatch instructions and responds to two-way radio calls.
• Obeys all traffic laws and district policies; follows handbook and local ordinances.
• Maintains assigned time schedules and may drive during pre-day and dusk periods; prioritizes safety.
• Transports students with disabilities using proper equipment and knowledge of assistive devices.
• Represents the Department professionally and works with Bus Paraprofessionals and school staff.
• Manages student behavior using approved discipline procedures to ensure safety.
• Upholds DPS dress code and maintains a professional, customer-service demeanor.
• Maintains confidentiality of student information and reports suspected child abuse per DPS guidelines.
