Qualifications

  • Successfully pass an annual physical examination and regular drug/alcohol testing as required by the State of Maine.
  • Meet all physical, mental, and moral requirements established by the Maine Commissioner of Education.

Responsibilities

  • Operate school buses or other district vehicles on strictly scheduled routes.
  • Board and un-board passengers in accordance with state safety rules and vehicular laws.
  • Maintain a firm commitment to schedule accuracy while prioritizing passenger safety.
  • Be available for route adjustments or schedule changes as necessitated by district needs.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety.
  • Perform routine maintenance on assigned vehicles to ensure optimal performance.
  • Report defects, accidents, or safety incidents immediately to the Transportation Coordinator.

Job Goal

To provide safe, efficient, and reliable transportation for students. This role ensures that students are transported along assigned routes in a professional manner, adhering to all safety procedures and vehicular laws to support the district's educational mission.


Performance Responsibilities


  • Transportation & Route Management

  • Operate school buses or other district vehicles on strictly scheduled routes.

  • Board and un-board passengers in accordance with state safety rules and vehicular laws.

  • Maintain a firm commitment to schedule accuracy while prioritizing passenger safety above all else.

  • Be available for route adjustments or schedule changes as necessitated by district needs.

  • Vehicle Maintenance & Stewardship

  • Conduct comprehensive daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the vehicle is in safe operating condition.

  • Perform minor servicing and routine maintenance on assigned vehicles to ensure optimal performance.

  • Exercise high levels of care and consideration for RSU #63 vehicles to help reduce long-term operational and repair costs.

  • Maintain a clean vehicle interior, ensuring a professional environment for students.

  • Safety & Compliance

  • Observe all district policies, state traffic laws, and personnel safety regulations at all times.

  • Follow prescribed procedures and methods for vehicle operation to maintain total control and safety of the bus.

  • Report any mechanical defects, traffic accidents, or safety incidents immediately to the Transportation Coordinator.

  • Implement fair and consistent student conduct expectations during transport to minimize distractions and hazards.

  • Professionalism & Communication

  • Demonstrate a professional and courteous demeanor with students, parents, and community members.

  • Participate in required safety training, workshops, and district meetings.

  • Complete all necessary paperwork, including mileage logs, student conduct reports, and maintenance requests, in a timely manner.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Transportation Coordinator or Administration.

As defined by the Support Services Handbook.


Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated by the Transportation Coordinator based on driving safety, reliability, vehicle upkeep, and the ability to maintain a positive environment for student passengers.
