Job summary

RSU 57/MSAD 57 SCHOOL DISTRICT is seeking a Bus Driver responsible for safe operation, routing, and daily maintenance of the assigned school bus. The role requires a High School diploma and a Maine CDL Class B with P&S endorsements, with emphasis on effective communication with students, parents, and staff.

Hourly wage range reflects responsibilities, with a 176-day work year. The driver will perform pre-trip checks, enforce conduct rules, assist with bus stops planning, and support school

Qualifications

  • High School diploma and/or formal training in bus driving or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience.
  • Valid State of Maine CDL, Class B with P&S Endorsements (required).
  • To communicate effectively and work cooperatively with students, parents, community, and school personnel

Responsibilities

  • Operate school bus safely on a daily basis
  • Check bus before each operation for mechanical defects and report any defects utilizing daily inspection form
  • Clean assigned bus inside daily and wash inside and outside monthly or sooner if appropriate
  • Discharge students only at authorized stops
  • Enforce rules governing student conduct on buses and utilize district's formal discipline procedure when appropriate
  • Report any damage of vehicle to Director of Transportation
  • File accident report as necessary
  • Require students to walk in front of the bus and await driver signal before they cross the highway
  • Utilize safe driving practices in accordance with State law
  • Abide by district's drug and alcohol testing policy
  • Assign students to bus seats when circumstances warrant
  • Assist the Director of Transportation in the planning of bus stops and schedule
  • Refer all requests from parents concerning transportation changes to the Director of Transportation
  • Assist in inter-school delivery of mail, and supplies
  • Ensure that the bus is empty and secured whenever the bus is unattended. Periodically check the bus for security purposes
  • Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities that may be assigned

Hourly,, work year (176 days) and working conditions to be established by the RSU 57 School Board.

Hourly Rate:

$22.67$26.33 per hour

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board's policy on evaluation.
