Job summary

Claymontschools seeks a dedicated bus monitor/assistant to support students under the bus driver’s supervision. You will help with loading/unloading, ensure seating, and reinforce rules while maintaining student safety and privacy.

The role involves assisting with health considerations, emergency procedures, and cooperation with staff to implement student support strategies. Training and certification may be required as conditions of employment.

Qualifications

• Valid Ohio Department of Education license/permit at time of appointment.
• Displays flexibility, reliability, self-discipline and willingness to take on challenging tasks.
• Ethical integrity and responsibility in conduct.
• Maintains a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.
• Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) or similar training may be required for some assignments.

Responsibilities

• Monitors and assists students under the guidance of the bus/van driver.
• Assists with passenger loading and unloading; ensures passengers are seated before the vehicle moves; teamwork with driver on wheelchair lift vehicles.
• Communicates rules to students and enforces expectations and consequences.
• Keeps school personnel informed about behavior concerns.
• Works with staff to identify student assistance strategies.
• Attends to student concerns discreetly when assistance is requested.
• Provides help as needed for students with medical/health considerations.
• Learns proper procedures for emergency bus evacuations and for operating fire/safety equipment.
• Reports work-related injuries to a supervisor promptly.
• Keeps district property secure and prevents loss of supplies/equipment.
• Assists students with standard hygiene/sanitation procedures.
