Job summary

Oregon Child Development Coalition (OCDC) is seeking a Bus Assistant to support safe transportation of children on the school bus. You will work with the Bus Driver to supervise, load/unload, and ensure each child is secured, while maintaining orderly conduct and communicating with families.

You will participate in safety education, complete required forms, and help keep the bus clean. Knowledge of OCDC procedures and Oregon ELD requirements will be applied within the first 6 months of hire.

Qualifications

• No formal education or experience required for this position.
• Must meet Oregon’s Early Learning Division requirements for a Teacher Aide II within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Bus Driver in transporting children safely on the school bus.
• Collaborate with the Bus Driver to supervise children and ensure no child is left unsupervised.
• Load and unload children safely and verify the correct children enter/exit the bus.
• Ensure children are buckled in appropriate car seats or seat belts at all times.
• Maintain vehicle capacity and keep belongings secured, distributing them after transport.
• Assist with bus cleanliness and transportation safety education.
• Complete required paperwork and documentation.
• Monitor behavior on the bus with attention to safety and educational activities.
• Provide water or relief on hot days and apply positive behavioral approaches to reduce conflicts.
• Follow medication procedures and store/transport medications properly.
